Island Portrait

Barbados is the Caribbean's most refined island — a place where British colonial elegance meets Bajan warmth, where world-class cricket matches unfold on village greens, and where the rum is as smooth as the island's legendary hospitality. The west coast, known as the Platinum Coast, is home to some of the region's most exclusive properties, their manicured grounds opening directly onto calm turquoise waters. But Barbados rewards those who venture beyond the beach: the island's interior reveals chattel houses painted in pastel hues, centuries-old plantation estates now transformed into museums and restaurants, and a culinary scene that has elevated flying fish and cou-cou to an art form. This is an island that has mastered the balance between sophistication and soul, where you're as likely to encounter a polo match as a fish fry, and where every sunset seems to arrive with a side of Mount Gay rum and the sound of steel pan drifting across the water.
