Island Portrait

Grenada reveals the Caribbean as it once was — lush, authentic, and wonderfully unhurried. Known as the Spice Isle for its centuries-old production of nutmeg, cinnamon, and cocoa, this tri-island nation carries an aromatic identity unlike anywhere else in the region. The capital, St. George's, is widely regarded as the most picturesque in the Caribbean — a horseshoe harbor of Georgian colonial architecture, a working careenage, and hilltop forts that survey the sea with quiet authority. Grand Anse Beach stretches for two miles of powdery white sand, while the island's volcanic interior conceals rainforest trails, crater lakes, and cascading waterfalls that reward the curious traveler. Beneath the surface, the world's first underwater sculpture park has transformed Molinière Bay into a living gallery of coral and art. For those who seek a Caribbean experience rooted in genuine culture, natural abundance, and the pleasure of discovery, Grenada offers something increasingly rare: an island that has not yet been smoothed into sameness.
